OTTAWA – Canada Post welcomes the review of postal service in Canada announced today by the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, the Honourable Judy Foote. We are committed to actively participating in the process to help determine the best path forward given the ongoing challenges faced by the postal system.
The review comes at a critical time in the 253-year history of postal service in Canada. While the postal needs of Canadians are changing rapidly, the postal system remains a vital component of our national fabric. For example, the demand for paper-based letters, bills and statements has declined 32 per cent over the last decade, yet mail remains important to Canadians. At the same time, Canadian retailers of all sizes are utilizing Canada Post’s vast network for parcel delivery to reach customers across the country and around the world.
